This year my gorgeous friends bought me the best birthday present – a voucher to attend the Makelight Photography for Flower Lovers workshop!
Like so many other people I love looking on Instagram at gorgeous pictures of flowers yet when I try and recreate these they never look quite right – what is it that other people get so right that I get so wrong!!
For some time following a recommendation from a friend I have been following Emily Quinton and love her simple but stunning style so couldn’t wait to get myself up to West Dulwich and attend the workshop.
From the moment you walk into Emily’s beautiful light studio and see the fabulous lay out and props available you know it’s going to be a great day and it most definitely was!
The morning started with lots of information from Emily about social media and finding a style that represents both you and your business and how getting the right photos is all about planning ahead. This information was worthy of a days workshop on it’s own but this was just the start, we moved on to talk about composition, using backgrounds, props and then we were let loose to use the studio and the props to take our own images.
With the information I’d already been given I suddenly found I was starting to really think about what I was taking a photo of rather than just snapping away and the results were instantly noticeable!
After a lovely lunch with the other students, we moved on to talk about light and editing and then with Emily’s guidance we started photographing all of the lovely flowers that each of us had bought to the workshop.
Sadly the day flew by but I came away with so much knowledge and filled with excitement about planning photos for The Flower School’s new Instagram account.
For anyone who wants to learn to take beautiful photos I can’t recommend Emily and her workshops enough and if you aren’t able to get along to one of her workshops then her online courses offer something for everyone from beginners to those with more experience.
